Students have been working hard on their letter recognition, number sense, and writing skills during our "bin work" time. It was wonderful to see students explaining this work during student-led conferences and showing parents what they've been learning about at school.
Here are some photos from bin work time in our classroom. I also threw in photo of our new magna-tiles centre at the light table :) The students are loving this. Thank you all for coming to support your child. It was great to see everyone! Gracias por todo, Sra. de Benito

Gracias, Sra. de Benito (If you can help with these volunteer requests please email me directly at [email protected]) Hola familias! October's been a busy month so far with our first spanish culture assembly, inside out day, our artist in residence and meeting our new grade 5 buddies! Students will be working with grade 5's on spanish conversation and other important buddy activities throughout the year (We're hoping to meet each week). This week we focused on our feelings in alignment with inside out day. Students have been learning how to ask "How do you feel?/Como te sientes?" and responding with "I feel/Yo me siento ______." We've been exploring the following emotions: feliz - happy triste - sad enojado/a - angry (o ending for a boy or a ending for a girl) cansado/a - tired (o ending for a boy or a ending for a girl) emocionado/a - excited (o ending for a boy or a ending for a girl) We've also been focusing on letter names and letter/sound recognition. This will of course be ongoing through the year but students are currently learning to identify upper/lowercase letters and are being introduced to letter sounds. I encourage students to play the following games to reinforce this learning :) http://www.abcya.com/kindergarten_computers.htm#letters-cat Here are a couple videos to support your child's learning as well. Gracias! Sra. de Benito What we're learning: •School routines (expected vs. unexpected behaviour) •Kelso’s choices (conflict resolution strategies) •Letter recognition (focus on names) •Work on pencil grip and other fine motor skills (cutting, pasting, etc.) •Practicing lines and how to draw a person •Spanish colours and days of the week •Number sense 1-5 •Fall seasonal changes •Comparing and contrasting fall traditions (Canada and Mexico) Upcoming Events: •Early Years Evaluations begin • Artist in Residence working with students on graphic novels •Volunteer times start this month! (Hopefully you get an email soon) Notes: •Tuesdays are Library day •AM entrance alternates doors due to changing supervision between the Kinder teachers • Remember that on Super Snack Fridays students need a snack and a “lunch” like snack •Please bring blue bags everyday! Here are a few pictures from centre time for both the AM and PM groups. Over the past few weeks centres have been introduced slowly as we continue to discuss routines and expected vs. unexpected behaviour. We are now in full swing and students have been doing a great job! Everyday students have the choice to work at the following centres:
Bienvenidos! Welcome!
Our class blog is finally up and running! This will now be my primary means of communication between our classroom and home for both the AM and PM groups in room 19. This will be a very important tool and means of communication this year as it will have important notices, learning updates, newsletters, pictures, videos and other resources to help you support learning at home. It is also a great way to stay informed and connected to what's happening in your child's classroom. I encourage families to post comments and/or questions to help build a stronger learning community. I hope everyone will take a few minutes each week to talk to their child about what they are learning about and take the opportunity to reinforce concepts at home. Please also talk to your child about appropriate use of technology, which I will reinforce in class. It's going to be a great year! It was wonderful meeting you all at conferences. Please don't hesitate to send me an email/call if you have any questions. Saludos, Sra. de Benito |
